CALENDAR NOTE 5 / SU'AO

Su'ao Nightlife

Nanfang'ao harbor seafood and a rare cold spring — a port town that goes quiet after nine, told straight. Su'ao is a port town that keeps port-town hours. Nanfang'ao's seafood houses are the county's showcase for the day's catch, and the cold-spring quarter hums at dusk — then, past nine, the whole town audibly exhales and goes quiet. Come for the golden dinner hour; leave the late night to Luodong.

FAQ

N-01What does Su'ao offer at night? Straight answer.

Straight answer — a strong dinner hour and a short second half. Nanfang'ao's seafood houses are Yilan's front window for same-day catch, and the cold-spring quarter keeps some buzz at dusk; but past nine the whole town winds down. Plan Su'ao as dusk-to-dinner and take the late night back to Luodong — that is the honest itinerary.

N-02How late do Nanfang'ao seafood restaurants run?

Most close by eight-thirty or nine — harbor hours run early. Come at dinner for the fresh catch and book ahead on weekends; after nine only scattered lights remain.

N-03Can I soak in the cold spring at night?

The cold-spring park and nearby bathhouses mostly close by evening — the 22-degree water is a daytime cool-down by nature. For a night soak, Jiaoxi's hot springs are the real answer, about forty minutes away.

N-04What budget for Su'ao?

Seafood runs NT$400-800 a head; cold-spring entry and bathhouses cost tens to a few hundred NT. Late-night options are few and cheap — the budget here is that one seafood dinner.

N-05What about rainy days?

Seafood houses and bathhouses carry on, but the lookout and Doufu Cape are not worth forcing in rain. On a wet night, finish dinner and head straight back to Luodong or Jiaoxi — do not wait out the rain at the harbor.

N-06Is Su'ao safe late at night?

Uncomplicated — the issue is not people but the lack of them. Streets empty after nine and public transport winds down early. Drive or book a taxi for late moves; do not leave it to chance.
